Propane fire flash seriously injures Teterboro worker

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A gas leak apparently ignited a flash fire at a Bergen County propane facility that severely burned a 44-year-old worker who broke his leg jumping off the loading dock, Moonachie Police Chief Michael J. McGuire said.

The flash ignited around 10:15 a.m. at the Yankee Propane Facility off of Malcolm Avenue in Teterboro, the chief said.

The worker sustained inhalation burns, and second- and third-degree burns to face, legs, arms, face and hair, as well as a leg fracture jumping from the loading dock, Maguire said.

The unidentified worker was in stable condition at Hackensack University Medical Center, the chief said.

Although no foul play is suspected, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Squad is investigating, along with a Moonachie detective, he said.

The Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department responded, and there was no structural damage or explosions, Maguire said..
