Unofficial results show Suarez finishing in front by more than 110 of little more than 2,000 votes cast.
A federal grand jury indicted Suarez after the FBI said it caught him on tape agreeing to accept payments from an informant posting as a developer looking to buy influence, as part of the largest sting of politicos in New Jersey history.
Suarez has insisted he is innocent and has pointed toward his October trial as his opportunity for vindication.
However, a movement swelled in town to oust him from office while he fought the charges. Critics said he hurt the borough's image by staying on, instead of quitting as most of his counterparts in other towns did.
Recall proponents gathered 1,800 signatures and were confident of a victory. But that didn't happen.
