It was a relief for those who feared a rerun of the night before, when the Pascack Brook broke its banks and evacuations and road closings were necessary.
Evacuations began in Hillsdale began around 1 a.m. Monday, when the brook reached the flood stage and the town's flood siren was sounded.
Police also cruised neighborhoods with bullhorns, urging residents to seek dry land. Several took them up on it, getting their vehicles out of the water's path.
Although the water receded and Hillsdale Police Chief Chip Stalter rescinded evacuation warnings, a rain-soaked forecast kept people on their toes. Both the Woodcliff Lake Reservoir and Pascack Brook were monitored throughout the day.
A submerged Washington Avenue, along with several side streets -- including Beechwood Drive were closed as a precaution when standing water began to accumulate. Both were reopened before Monday's back-to-work rush.
