Fair Lawn police plan all-out protest against layoffs following shooting

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Fair Lawn police union members are taking their opposition to staff cuts to the local council -- directly. Besides scheduling a protest at Tuesday’s Council meeting, “teams will be sent out to council member's homes with signs to bring awareness to the strong-arm politics that darkens our community and has devastated our department,” said David Boone, president of PBA Local #67.

Boone pointed to an incident last week involving two Fair Lawn police officers who were knocked down by a fleeing car in a Walgreens parking lot, with one of them firing shots at the car as it bore down on him.

Detectives from the department and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office caught two suspects within hours.

The incident came after a PBA demonstration last week outside Borough Hall.

“The energy, dedication and resolve displayed by these officers reaffirm their dedication to the community and to the oath they swore to uphold,” Boone said.

“We are confident that, regardless of the obstacles presented, our members will continue to serve the residents of Fair Lawn with the same conviction that they have displayed since our inception.”
