Leroy McKelvey
He is charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession.
"A Marine at the end of the row noticed that McKelvey and three others in his party would not stand or take their hats off for the national anthem," a law enforcement officer told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. "So the Marine tells McKelvey he better not have to get out of the row cause he won't let him out."
Sure enough, during the halftime show, McKelvey got up. Words were exhanged.
Three people in all, including the Marine, were hit with current from the gun, State Police Sgt. Brian Polite told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. All three later refused medical treatment, he said.
Security officers quickly restored order.
State Police then took the 5-foot-7, 184-pound McKelvey into custody, Polite said.
"The incident did not involve a TASER® brand device," but a "generic stun gun," according to Steve Tuttle, vice-president of communications for Taser International Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority -- and not the New Jersey State Police -- holds full responsibility for security at the Meadowlands. State Police are there for various reasons, all involving safety. They make arrests. Questions of how a dangerous weapon could be smuggled into the stadium should be addressed to the authority or to Governor Christie.)
