That's when he spotted a man -- identified as Tadd Mitchell, 26, of Hackensack -- walking toward the car.
Mitchell used to live there and has a child with Allen.
The victim said he pulled out and took off, but Mitchell raced ahead in a 2001 Honda Civic and cut him off.
Allen got out to talk with Mitchell, but he quickly climbed in through the passenger side of the man's car and slashed his right hand with a straight razor, Capt. Stephen Jaffe said.
Bleeding severely, the man drove to a Route 17 South truck stop at the bottom of Stag Hill Road and called police.
Patrol officers and detectives quickly spotted the couple in a nearby parking lot.
"Initially they acted as if they were embracing each other and not involved in the incident," Jaffe said.
That didn't work.
The victim -- who works for a cable television subcontractor -- later identified both, the captain said.
Allen had the razor stashed in a cellphone, Jaffe said.
Mitchell is charged with aggravated assault, weapons counts and evidence tampering. Allen was released without bail on a third-degree hindering apprehension charge.
