His wife Margie's cancer has returned -- although fortunately it's non-aggressive and can be treated, according to their daughter, Francesca. "Thank you for your concern," Francesca wrote on Facebook today. "She is hanging in there and is very strong and will beat this. Please keep her in your prayers."

To which the sheriff responded: "I want to thank everyone for the well wishes, emails, calls, flowers, posts, thoughts and prayers for my Maggie. This was a difficult week for her, but friends like you provided the strength needed to put this on track, which is all uphill from here. God Bless you all.
