The tale is about a young farmer in Africa who had a strong desire to find all the diamonds he could. He sold his farm, packed up his belongings, and headed out to seek his fortune in diamonds. After years of failure and despair he committed suicide.

One day the man, who had purchased his farm was working and noticed in the creek some sparkling stones. He picked up a large one, and after admiring its beauty, placed it on his mantle.
A visiting friend noticed the large stone and became very excited. He realized it was the largest diamond known to man!
He asked, “Where did you get this?” The young farmer replied, “Down by the creek; they seem to be everywhere.”
The farm became famous for having the largest discovery of diamonds in all of Africa. The first farmer threw away his life not realizing he owned “Acres of Diamonds.”
My friend and mentor, Paul Hutsey, put it best in a phone conversation we had recently.
He said, “Tommy, this story is repeated almost every day. We are all literally standing on our own diamond mine.”
He reminded me, all we need we already have, but we need to develop it. All too often we procrastinate and the little voice from the past says, “Play it safe. Therefore yesterday, and all the yesterdays, become missed opportunities.
We follow the crowd, thinking that’s the best way. It’s not the best way. It’s the average way. So we follow the follower, we dabble here, dabble there, make promises we don’t keep, and spend more time getting ready… to get ready.
So as you look back, will it be Results or Regrets? Effort or Excuses? Will you live a life of could’ve, would’ve, or should’ve? You see, whatever we focus on we get more of.
Life is all about choices…Choose wisely.
