The 5G network to a healthier you

WELLNESS: We can’t help but be aware of obesity and the chronic diseases associated with over-eating and not getting enough exercise. In the back of our minds, we know that one day, we too could be at the other end of that conversation about cancer, heart disease or diabetes.

So what should we do?

Although genetics play an important role, so does how we take care of ourselves. We know this and yet we continue to eat the same processed food and not take the time necessary to put our bodies and minds in a better place.

A quote from “The Conduct of Life”: “Those who think they have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”

So here’s a suggestion: Try the 5 Gs listed below, and see if you don’t find yourself on the road to better overall health for you and your family:

Eat your GREENS – Benefits of eating dark leafy greens include improving your immune system, better circulation, cancer prevention, and more oxygen in your blood. They are also full of vitamins, fiber and phytochemicals. Eat a large mixed green salad every day.

Eat your GRAINS - Whole grains are an excellent source of nutrition. They contain essential enzymes, iron, and fiber and are digested slowly, helping to keep blood sugar levels from spiking. Boil your favorite grains in a large pot, store in an airtight container in the frij and add to your favorite soups, salads eggs and other dishes to provide fiber texture and excellent nutrition.

Get up and GO - Movement is extremely important to your joints, bones, heart and brain health. If you sit all day on the job, take that walk around the block, hit the gym on your way home and get on that treadmill. Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Whenever and wherever you are: Just get up and go.

Start with GRADUAL change, not trying to do it all at once. Walking more, adding the salad, taking the stairs -- these are all gradual changes that, made over a lifetime, can have significant benefits to your overall health.

Be GRATEFUL for the simple things in life. People have a tendency to dwell on what they want to change instead of appreciating the things in their lives that are simple and make them happy -- like family, friends, a beautiful sunny day. You’d be amazed how far a positive outlook can take you.
