SUPREME PEACE: Present tension

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift" says Kung Fu Panda. It makes sense that we call it "the present." Being in the moment is an attuned state of awareness that requires intentional living. The man famous for quotes of love, peace and non-violence, John Lennon, is quoted as saying: " Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans."

Are you merely plugging along on autopilot, living non-intentionally? Or are you aware of this gift every time you inhale and exhale?

As we breathe in, we are receiving life....but if you aren't present to notice, then you aren't living. We are human beings, not human havings or human doings.

Someone once said if you ask a fish what water is they cannot tell you. Water is to fish as being is to human. The only difference here is that we have to mindfully BE on purpose. It actually takes no effort on your part. It's acually a matter of letting go.

If you are stuck in the past or worried about the future you are unable to enjoy what you actually have -- the now.

Check out author Eckhart Tolle's, "A New Earth." There are just over 200 pages of the awakening of living in the now, which he believes is our purpose. There are so many sapient quotes, books and tools to inspire you to be fully present.

On Mondays we wish our life away looking out for that long week. Wednesday approaches and we lighten up thinking it's almost the weekend. Friday comes and there is so much enthusiasm for the next 2 days ahead.

Then it's Monday all over again.

It's no wonder we forget things. We are in the middle a simple act, or a simple conversation in the here and now, and our minds are someplace else.

Do you ever notice that voice in your head that says , "Wow that was a short week, I can't believe it's already Monday AGAIN!" You may have heard that, statistically, most heart attacks happen on Sunday night. I wonder how many of them were dreading the week ahead.

This life is a gift, the only one you get. So be in the moment, look for inspiration around you. My uncle was on vacation once and he got us pressing the center of our foreheads with our index finger to remind us to be in the moment. It was fun -- like a reset button.

What will bring you back to being human?
